Perennial Gardening
Before getting into perennial gardening, there are some things you should know first before starting your garden. First off, you will want to determine where you are going to put your garden. Some good places are along a fence in your yard or in a corner, but make sure it is away from other trees and plants as they will try to steal all the water for themselves and leave your garden high and dry!
To do perennial gardening right, you need to start your garden out right. When deciding placement you also want to keep in mind sun placement. Some plants need a shaded garden, some a sunlit garden, etc. Determine the type of garden you want to do first before setting its location. Most plants come with tags on them that let you know how much sunlight you should give it, so keep that in mind. Now that you have your spot picked up, its time to get rid of all the grass and weeds in the area and lay your soil down.
Now you should amend your soil and if need be, add some compost, sand, or peat to give it the proper amount of nutrients. Now that you have the garden bed setup, you need to plant your plants and start watering. Now I suggest that you place plants together relative to their water intake. For example, some plants require more watering than others, so place those plants next to each other, and the plants that don’t require as much watering next to each other. This will make it much easier on maintaining them. And last but not least, make sure you mulch your garden periodically to conserve water and maintain weeds.
