Indoor Gardening Shelving and It's Importance

If you aren’t lucky enough to have the pleasure of an out-door garden then how about converting your living room into a lush haven of greenery? Wondering how can you do so? Well, the answer is simple. By making the most of your windows, corners and any other portion of the living room. But indoor gardening also requires some tools and accessories such as trays, racks, shelves, containers and lighting etc. Out of these, indoor gardening shelving is the most important especially if you desire to keep the plants near the windows.

Apart from providing room for a neat arrangement of flower- pots and containers indoor gardening shelving is also one of the best ways to maximize the available space. The shelves are generally made of single or double layer Plexiglas. However the only difference between the two is that the single layer shelf comes along with a humidity tray and has no holes where the pots can be fitted in. whereas the double layer shelf has holes for the pots in the top layer and a humidity tray in the lower layer. The shelves have the maximum capacity of holding either three small plants or two bigger plants. They can be easily fitted with the help of strong cables and right angle brackets. Maintenance of these shelves is also not a very difficult task and they can be cleaned easily with a cloth and a solution of water and a mild detergent.

Now for the more interesting part of having shelves in your indoor garden. Since the shelves come along with the humidity trays there is no need to move the plants in order to water them. The excess water automatically passes through the holes in the glass into the humidity tray and gets collected there. Flowering plants, bonsais, herbs and cactus make good indoor plants and can be easily placed on the shelves. The only care that you have to take is to keep rotating them when they grow a little bigger in size. For bigger plants the shelves should be fixed at a level that is below the eye. This will make the flowers and leaves more visible rather than the pots in which they are placed.

With the availability of shelves indoor gardening has become much more easier and maintainable. Not only do we have the choice to decide where to put the shelves in but we also get the liberty to add or subtract their numbers as per our requirements.

However we should also pay careful attention before deciding the location of the shelves. If we have small children and pets around the house then we should opt for a relatively high section for shelving. Alternatively if you want to opt for low shelving, windows are the right place for them provided there aren’t any furniture or showpieces around that area.

Shelves involve a small price to pay for if we consider the beauty and elegance they can add to our house. So the next time you have visitors over, surprise them by showing- off your beautiful indoor garden and they are sure to turn green but certainly not with envy!
